Abstract

This work outlines how Americans engaged in rural development through education in the Near East from the late 19th century into the Cold War. The analysis outlines the work of missionaries, humanitarians, philanthropists, and US government actions to engage with rural populations via programs such as teacher, agricultural, and adaptive education in addition to technical assistance.
